LA JOLLA, Calif. - LMU finished the Triton Invitational with another sweep on Sunday, including yet another one-goal thriller with host and rival UC San Diego in the final on Sunday. The Lions defeated No. 19 Air Force 7-5 to start the day then ended with a 7-6 win over the 12th-ranked Tritons.
The eighth-ranked Lions improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in against Western Water Polo Association foes after the wins on Sunday.
Freshman Joe Ferritti scored a pair of goals in the win over Air Force and redshirt freshman Mark Menis had two in the big road win over the Tritons. The Lions had good balance in the final day, as six players scored in each game.
Menis also scored against Air Force while senior Edgaras Asajavicius, redshirt senior Charlie Horton and junior transfer Matt Venner joined Menis by scoring in both games.
The Lions will play their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they face Pepperdine at 12 noon. It will be the first Centennial Game this 2011-12 as LMU celebrates its 100th Anniversary.
Each of LMU's varsity programs will host a Centennial Game to celebrate LMUat100. The game will feature special giveaways and special promotions.
