2011 MWP Schedule
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After just 12 home games in the last two seasons combined, the LMU men's water polo team will celebrate the University's Centennial in 2011 with 11 home games - the most since year three of the Burns Aquatics Center in 2002.
The Lions - winners of four straight Western Water Polo Association titles and eight championships in the last 10 years - will open its 11 home games with one of LMU's 16 Centennial Games on Sept. 10 against Pepperdine at 12 noon. LMU Athletics will host a Centennial game for each of its varsity programs in 2011-12 as part of the year-long LMUat100 celebration.
Fans can be a part of the Lions' defense of four straight conference crowns and the LMUat100 celebration with the Centennial Scarf Season Ticket. For $30 fans can get season access to all 11 of the Lions' home games as well as season ticket access to women's water polo, men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's volleyball. That's over 60 home games at LMU. And as the name suggests, the season ticket includes the limited edition Centennial Scarf.

"Our schedule is once again built to challenge us and prepare us for the WWPA championships," said Head Coach John Loughran. "It sure will be nice to have those 11 home games. We have a young team who will have to learn new roles and having a schedule with this many home games will help."
Since the Burns Aquatics Center opened in 2000, the Lions enjoy a better than .700 winning percentage and are coming off a pair of season with just one setback at home (4-1 in 2010, 6-1 in 2009).
The season will begin with the annual trip to the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Lions will play four games at the tournament, three against WWPA opponents at the tournament on Sept. 3-4. They will open with Redlands and Cal Lutheran on Saturday and then face Air Force and UC San Diego on Sunday.
The Lions will then come home for their first two at the Burns Center. It starts with the Waves in the Centennial Game on Saturday, Sept. 10 followed by Navy's first-ever trip to the Burns Center the following Saturday, Sept. 17.
It gets better from there as the Lions host UCLA a week later on Sept. 24, followed by Princeton on Sept. 29. Sandwiched in between Navy and UCLA is a second trip to UC San Diego to take on the Tritons in their annual meeting under the lights on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
The Lions home slate will also include Whittier on Oct. 6 followed by road games at USC on Oct. 8 and then the first trip to Air Force to take on the Falcons at the Academy at Oct. 14.
LMU returns home for a third meeting against the rival Tritons on Oct. 21. The home date against UCSD starts a six-game home stretch to end the regular season. The stretch continues with Cal Baptist (Oct. 27) and WWPA foe UC Davis (Oct. 29) to end October.
The Lions will then finish the regular season with Fresno Pacific (Nov. 4), Santa Clara (Nov. 5) and Long Beach State (Nov. 12).
LMU's schedule also includes the annual SoCal Invitational on Oct. 1-2 at Long Beach. The 2011 WWPA Championships will be held Nov. 17-20 at UC San Diego.
