LOS ANGELES - LMU continued its preparation for the West Coast Conference championships with a strong dual-meet performance against UC San Diego last Saturday at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey. The Lions rowed to victory in two of the three events to post a victory over the Tritons.
Facing an increasingly strong headwind throughout the morning, the day got started with the 2nd Varsity 8 race. LMU's boat out-raced two from UCSD, crossing the line in 5:38.5, well ahead of the Tritons' Novice 8 (5:50.57) and their 2nd Varsity 8 (5:54.66).
Next up was the Varsity 8, with the Lions again posting a strong time, finishing in 5:26.66 to UCSD's 5:37. 63. The day concluded with the Varsity 4/Novice 4 race, which the Tritons won in 7:14.22. LMU's Novice 4 was second in 7:22.4, with UCSD's Novice 4 third in 7:27.49.
The Lions will remain on Ballona Creek this weekend to host the prestigious NorCal/SoCal Showdown. LMU will welcome six schools to its home course: three from Northern California (UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and Saint Mary's) and three from Southern California (LMU, San Diego State, and San Diego). All the Northern schools will race the Southern schools in a dual-style races, starting Saturday morning and continuing throughout the day, concluding on Sunday morning.
