SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The ninth-ranked LMU men's water polo team earned their seventh straight win over Western Water Polo Association foes, defeating No. 11 Santa Clara, 11-5, in the final contest of a three-game road stint in northern California on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions played three games in less than 70 hours, all in the top-13 nationally. The Lions improve to 15-8 on the season and 13-1 in the WWPA. Junior Edgaras Asajavicius scored four goals while Andy Stevens made 11 saves in the win.
LMU's defense came up big in the last two wins, allowing just six goals in eight quarters of play.
LMU took a 6-4 lead at the break and extended it by one in the third. They put the game away with a shutout fourth quarter on the defensive side while scoring three of their own.
LMU will finish the regular season on Thursday, Nov. 11 when they travel to Long Beach State for a 7 p.m. start.
