LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The fifth-ranked LMU men's water polo team ran their winning streak against Western Water Polo Association foes to 22 with a big 7-4 road win over No, 13 UC San Diego on Thursday night at La Jolla High School. While it was the 22nd straight against a WWPA foe, it was the eighth straight against their top rival, UCSD.
The Lions are now 8-2 on the season, equalling their best start since 2004. The Lions have not lost in the WWPA since Oct. 26, 2007.
Max Schlegel continued to put up big goals, leading the Lions with a hat-trick. He helped the Lions to a 4-1 lead at the half, scoring back-to-back goals in the final 3:41 of the second quarter.
After a UCSD goal to start the third quarter, the Lions scored the last two goals of the third and the first of the fourth to jump out to a 7-2 lead.
LMU will return home for the Team LMU Game of the Week on Saturday, Sept. 26 against No. 9 Long Beach State. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
