Gifu, Japan - Naomi Hoogesteger, who competed for the Lions during the 2004 season, made history last week as the first LMU Lion rower to capture a medal at Senior World Championships. Hoogesteger raced for Great Britain in the A final of the lightweight women's quad, placing third to gold medallists, Canada and silver medallists, Denmark.
Hoogesteger reached the A final after a successful repechage race in which the Great Britain quad led from start to finish, finishing with a time of 6:19.86. This result placed them into the A final on Sunday along with heat winners Canada and Denmark.
Naomi raced for LMU in the 2004 Varsity Eight which won the San Diego Crew Classic Cal Cup Championship as well as the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship and the West Coast Conference Varsity Eight title.
The World Senior Rowing Championships are the final race of the international season and determine the world's best in each of the 24 existing boat classes. This year's World Championships were held in Gifu, Japan.
