Los Angeles, CA (June 21) - Loyola Marymount Uuniversity alumnae Naomi Hoogesteger competed in her first international race May 26-28 at the Bearing Point Rowing World Cup in Eton, Great Britain. Hoogesteger represented Great Britain in the Lightweight Women's Single.
After placing first in her heat, Naomi progressed directly to the A/B semi finals where she placed second, ahead of the 2001 World Champion Sinead Jennings of Ireland, who came in fourth. Hoogesteger then raced in the A Final and finished fourth overall, ahead of Czech World Championship rower Daniela Nachazelova.
The World Cup is an annual team competition, created in 1997. The May 26-28 Eton race is the first in a series of three races leading up to the 2005 World Championships in Gifu, Japan at the end of August. The second and third World Cup Regattas will be held in Munich from June 17-19 and Lucerne, Switzerland from July 8-10.
Hooegsteger was a member of LMU's varsity eight which won the 2004 San Diego Crew Classic Cal Cup and the 2004 WIRA Championship.
