SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Lions saw their first racing action of the year over the weekend on Lake Natoma at the Head of the American. Hosted by the California State University Sacramento Aquatic Center, LMU sent one crew each from the Men's and Women's Teams for the Sat, October 29th event.

In the Men's Open 4+ LMU's lineup of (coxswain) freshman Vanessa Garrett, (stroke) senior Jim Pucetti, (3-seat) senior Warren Anderson, (2-seat) sophomore Perkin DiGrazia, and (bow) sophomore David Cronin rowed to a 4th place finish in a field of 12 entries. The men finished behind first place winner Stanford, tying for 4th at 18:17 with Sacramento State. Long Beach State and UC Davis took spots two and three, respectively.

The Women entered a lightweight 4+ and took home first place honors. The young crew of (coxswain) sophomore Jenn Guess, (stroke) sophomore Jill Austin, (3-seat) freshman Sarah Bauer, (2-seat) sophomore Larissa Meltz, and (bow) sophomore Jen Glassman rowed the 4.8 kilometer course in 20:38. This finishing time won the gold medal and also would have placed the lightweights in 4th position in the Women's Open 4+ event, which went down the course in similar conditions just before the lightweight 4's.
