Marina del Rey (April 13) -- The Loyola Marymount University men's crew team competed at the 2003 George Gordon Cup hosted by USC in Ballona Creek on Sunday. The Lions' Varsity 8 finished second while the Novice 8 took home first place.

The George Gordon Cup, raced at the USC course in Ballona Creek, featured crews from Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara and USC. Races that were held were Varsity 4, Novice 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 8.

USC took home the Gordon Cup with a win in the Varsity 8, finishing in a time of 6:04. It was six seconds better than the Lions, who edged out the Gauchos by four seconds.

In the win at Novice 8, the Lions finished in a time of 6:22, 14 seconds better than USC and 18 seconds better than UCSB.

UC Santa Barbara won the Second Varsity 8 with a time of 6:26. The Lions finished second at 6:37. The Varsity 4 was won by USC in a time of 6:42. LMU finished third.

The Lions will race in the Newport Regatta on Sunday, April 27 at Lido Channel in Newport Beach.
