Following the WCC Championships, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams return to postseason racing Friday, Nov. 9 at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Sacramento. The women's 6K will begin at 11 a.m. and the men's 10K will follow at 12 p.m. at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
LMU had a successful Regional finish last season as the women placed 11th, marking their highest finish since 2014 when they were ninth and tying the second-highest finish in school history. The Lion men tied for their highest finish in regional history (2009) by finishing in 13th place.
Maddi Vorgitch (women),
Koby Pederson and
Jack Polerecky (men) have been the consistent top finishers for LMU this season.
Along with Vorgitch,
Perri Bockrath,
Grace Catena,
Kyla Danforth,
Giselle Masedo,
Dani Rowlinson and
Hannah Wohlenberg will be competing for the Lion women in the 6K.
Solomon Demeku-Ousman,
Branden Estrada,
Joseph Garcia,
Simeon Paul and
Alex Sasser will join Pederson and Polerecky on the course for the Lion men.
The top two teams in Friday's race automatically qualify for the NCAA National Championships and there is also an opportunity for teams to get an at-large berth depending on their performance throughout the season. Participants can qualify individually and as a team, and to qualify they must finish in the top-25 and be one of the top-4 individuals NOT on a qualifying team.
In LMU's last outing on Oct. 27 in the WCC Championships in Provo, Utah, the Lion women placed fourth and the men came in sixth overall.
